Sportsman Car Update

Last Updated on Thursday, 08 March 2012 10:39 Written by Administrator Sunday, 14 August 2011 22:43

It's been a busy summer.  Between the trips to Texas and Florida, selling off the Legends cars and trailers, and getting ourselves in the position to make a couple of runs in the new Sportsman have consumed most of our time.  To date, we have sold the Legends coupe, and the enclosed and open trailers, leaving one Legends sedan and a two race-old Legends engine.  If anyone is interested in the Legends car, please visit ad #2262329 at racingjunk.com .

The Sportsman car, which will make its debut in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series at Lake County Speedway later this season, is taking shape.  Mike Henderson, of Competitive Edge Speed Shop, painted the car in our favorite color, black, and Duane Workman, of D. W. Signs and Graphics applied the cool lettering.  This is our first hand-lettered car and we are extremely happy with Duane's work.

We've included a gallery of our new Monte Carlo Sportsman car below.  Click on any image to start the viewer.

Our newest addition is a Chevrolet Monte Carlo Sportsman car, which we purchased from Joe Tillery today.  Mike Henderson raced the car in several events last season, and prior to that, Nick Nyznik drove the car.

We plan to hit the track in late 2011, or at the beginning of the 2012 season, in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Sportsman division at Lake County Speedway, in Painesville, OH.

We are looking forward to returning to the .2-mile speedway, where we began racing in April, 1996.  We spent the next four years racing there, finishing second in Trophy Stock points in 1999.

We will be selling our Legends operation, including two cars, two trailers and a two-race night old engine.  We have listed our first Legends car on racingjunk.com and legendsracer.com, with more to come soon.

Stay tuned for more updates.  here we go!

Jim Spotton, Father of our good friend and fellow racer Dave Spotton, passed away recently after a long illness.  He was often seen cruising in a really cool bright red small block Chevy-powered Fiat Topolino.  We will keep Dave, his family and their friends in our thoughts and prayers.  Jim's obituary:

Jim was loved by many, loved to watch NASCAR with his son, have long talks with his daughter, spending quality time with his grandkids and attending cruise-ins with his car buddies. He possessed a smile and sense of humor that could make everybody smile. Mr. Spotton was employed as a committeeman at Euclid, Inc. for 18 years, and also operated his own businesses.

Our Plans for 2011 and Beyond

After a great deal of thought and discussion, we have decided to move to the Sportsman Division in the NASCAR Whelen All American Series at Lake County Speedway.  This move will take most, if not all of the summer to complete, as we have a number of things outside of racing that need attention, as well as selling the two Legends cars, a spare engine and two trailers.  I am quite excited about this move, as it takes us back to the track where we have had the most success, and where my racing career began in 1996.

I would like to thank my wife, Rebecca, and friend Dave Spotton for their support and adding some objectivity to the situation.  Watch this spot for updates - it's going to be fun!
